Golf Course Superintendent
Golf course in Camp Pendleton, California is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.

Position Overview:
Responsibilities:
• Provides the technical expertise to maintain the golf course greens, tees, fairways, roughs, irrigation system, and all related facilities and equipment.
• Evaluates the course and related businesses (driving ranges, entry to the facility, etc.) so that it is pleasing to the eye and represents a “country club” level of expectation.
• Ensures the attractiveness and constant readiness for play of the course.
• Determines the appropriate genus of grass based on soil condition, climate, and season.
• Ensures the proper functioning of the irrigation system and determines water application.
• Directs the types and amounts of soil nutrients and fertilizers to be applied.
• Takes soil samples throughout the year and determines necessary amendments.
• Selects, applies, stores, and safely handles pesticides and other substances.
• Ensures compliance with Base, OSHA, county, state, and federal hazardous waste regulations.
• Initiates contact with outside agencies (e.g., USGA) for site visits and consultation.
• Represents course maintenance in golf committee meetings.
• Oversees renovations of tees, greens, fairways, bunkers, and practice areas.
• Recommends architectural changes and works with golf course architectural firms.
• Manages all maintenance personnel, including hiring, scheduling, payroll, and evaluations.
• Coordinates maintenance practices around play and outings.
• Supervises safe operation and maintenance of mechanical/power equipment.
• Plans and budgets for capital equipment needs.
• Leads maintenance staff through mentoring, performance reviews, leave approvals, and training.
• Manages purchasing using GCPC cards and electronic purchase orders.
• Creates a welcoming and respectful work environment and provides excellent customer service.
• Responds quickly to customer concerns and alerts appropriate staff when needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
A minimum of four years’ experience as a golf superintendent required.
Must possess professional knowledge of golf operations; maintenance experience in design and maintenance of a golf course preferred.
Active “Class A” member of the PGA of America or “Class A, Certified Golf Course Superintendent” as designated by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America required.
Must maintain active membership and complete recurring educational requirements to retain certification.
Ability to implement operational efficiencies in golf course maintenance.
Knowledge of safety, occupational health, and environmental regulations, including chemicals and sprays.
Familiarity with Non-Appropriated Fund policies and procedures preferred.
Hands-on agronomy duties and oversight of equipment maintenance required.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
Advanced computer skills required for financial reporting and operational controls.
Ability to recognize turf damage and apply corrective fungicides, pesticides, and germicides.
Must calibrate sprayers and sprinklers accurately.
Academic achievements or practical experience in turfgrass maintenance, agronomy, and horticulture required.
Talent in landscaping, planting, and turf cultivation essential.
Must be a certified pest control applicator or complete Navy pest control within one year of employment.
Strong leadership and supervisory skills to plan and motivate staff.
Effective oral and written communication skills required.

Compensation:
$72,800.00 – $76,960.00 per year.
