Golf Course Superintendent
Golf course in Warwick, Rhode Island is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.

Position Overview:
To be responsible for and perform a variety of skilled maintenance and supervisory functions relating to the operation and maintenance of golf course grounds with command of golf course turf management, ornamental plant management, irrigation, tournament play conditions, specialized equipment; and to do related work as required. Works under the general supervision of a superior from whom general and specific work assignments and instructions are received with latitude for the exercise of technical judgement; work is reviewed for results obtained and conformance with directives and divisional policies, objectives, rules and regulations and restrictions. Plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises the work of personnel, both full time and seasonal, assigned to assist; as assigned, may monitor the work of vendors providing services for conformance to bid specifications.

Illustrative Examples of Work Performed:
• Be responsible for and perform a variety of skilled maintenance and supervisory functions related to golf course grounds, including turf management, ornamental plant care, irrigation, tournament conditions, and specialized equipment.
• Perform manual and technical tasks to support the health and vigor of turf on greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
• Operate and supervise use of equipment for cutting, mowing, aerating, top dressing, fertilizing, irrigating, chemical application, and related activities.
• Perform and supervise technical turf management tasks, including pest and disease detection, identification, and treatment to maintain high-quality turf.
• Perform supervisory and recordkeeping functions such as daily assignments, requisitions, and chemical application documentation.
• Carry out manual labor for course cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and special maintenance projects.
• Supervise the maintenance of ornamental plantings and public golf course areas including walkways, cart paths, benches, shelters, and fountains.
• Evaluate overall golf course maintenance needs and recommend improvements.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations.
• Confirm proper usage and maintenance of all equipment.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:
Must possess a current physician’s certificate confirming ability to perform assigned duties.
Must possess Pesticide Applicator’s License for Turf and Ornamentals.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Education: Such as may have been gained through: graduation from a recognized college with a degree in Turf Management or a related field; and
Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment in a supervisory capacity with direct responsibility for golf course maintenance.
Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.
As a condition of employment, must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License for Turf and Ornamentals and a valid Rhode Island driver’s license.
Must possess a degree in Turf Management or related field, or must have experience in supervisory capacity with
direct responsibilities for golf course maintenance.
A thorough working knowledge of principles, methods and practices of golf course turf science and management; a working knowledge of specialized course equipment, operation, calibration and maintenance requirements; the ability to plan, supervise and evaluate the work of classifications assigned to assist; the ability to evaluate current facility conditions and make recommendations for their improvement or expansion; the ability to keep accurate, detailed records concerning chemical applications and conformance to commercial pesticide applicator regulations; the ability to collect pertinent data and information and prepare reports required by superior(s); and related capacities and abilities.

Compensation:
$59,279.00 – $68,343.00 per year.
