Golf Course Superintendent
Country Club in West Hartford, Connecticut is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.

Position Overview:
Duties:
• Working with the General Manager, the Chairman of the Greens Committee and the Head Golf Professional, the Grounds Superintendent will lead and manage the Club’s maintenance operation. Specifically, the Head Superintendent shall:
• Control and direct the maintenance, care and improvement of the golf course, the golf course facilities and club grounds (including the maintenance facility, irrigation system and all applicable machinery).
• Hold and maintain all license and certificates required by state and federal law for the execution of his/her duties.
• Inventory and maintain all pesticides and fertilizers using management practices while in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
• Implement policies established by the Club through its Board of Governors, Greens Committee Chairman and General Manager.
• Maintain the grounds of the Club at large to the highest standard possible. This may include (but is not limited to) the following: mowing lawns; maintaining and weeding planted beds; upkeep and repair of fencing; tree work of all sorts; upkeep of the range and of all practice facilities at the club; etc.
• Recruit, interview, hire and supervise and develop staff members.
• Establish a professional and welcoming environment for Club members, their guests and for staff. Interactions with the membership will be consistently welcoming, and to the best of his/her ability, the Grounds Superintendent will attempt to know every member’s name.
• Develop, implement, and review on an annual basis the policies and procedures affecting the orderly maintenance of the facilities and equipment.
• Supervise the purchase, lease, installation and upkeep of golf course maintenance equipment as well as improvements (including but not limited to: cart paths, excluding golf carts, tee markers, waste receptacles, flags, signs, toilets, water fountain, shelters and the like.)
• Embrace implement, coordinate, and augment the suggestions of various outside agencies. Coordinate the hiring of independent contractors retained by the Club to assist or improve the operations of the golf course, the grounds, or other related facilities.
• Foster and develop relationships with the local and state authorities, in effort to promote goodwill, while ensuring that the Club operates within the parameters set forth by said authorities.
• Develop with input from the General Manager, Controller, Greens Chairman and Treasurer the annual operations budget and capital expenditures budget.
• Monitor and implement operations and capital budget.
• Develop a working relationship with the General Manager, Head Golf Professional, and all other staff to integrate the various departments and facilities club-wide.
• Work with the Greens Committee and the Golf Committee to prepare the course and grounds for the full range of tournaments, outings and events offered by the Club. In attending meetings with the General Manager and the Greens and Golf Committees, the Grounds Superintendent will develop policies and procedures in an effort to help deliver to the Club an operation of the highest order.
• Consistently and clearly inform the membership of pertinent maintenance operations. This will include not only periodic updates of maintenance procedures, but also warnings and explanations of unexpected issues.

Requirements:
Participation in GCSAA activities, a degree in turf management, appropriate certification and licensing, a commitment to continuing education and interaction with USGA’s Green Section are all considered to be a plus.

Excellent Management Skills- Decision making, planning, problem-solving, communication, delegation, time management, organization, interpersonal skills.
Excellent Teamwork and Communication Skills- Interact, work, and relate with people, listen, speak, read, write, observe, and use English fluently.
Excellent Safety Skills- Observe safety rules, safely operate equipment, CPR and First Aid.
Excellent Grounds Maintenance Skills- Grass mowing, landscaping, plant trimming, grounds aesthetics, knowledge of grass growing progress, irrigation techniques, golf course drainage, plant fertility and pesticides.
Associate degree or higher.
Minimum 3 years of golf course maintenance experience in a leadership role to include golf, turf fertilization, calibration and pest control, as well as irrigation oversight.
Prior Superintendent experience preferred, but willing to consider an Assistant Superintendent that is ready to take the next step.
Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills
Special Requirements

Compensation:
$110,000 – $140,000 per year.
