Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Course in Clarence, New York is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.

Position Overview:
This person will have experience with and an understanding of great clubs and top golf course architecture, along with strong agronomic, organizational, and leadership skills. Serves as the leader and director of the Golf Course Operations, facilities, grounds and reports to the General Manager/COO. The Golf Course Superintendent will be required to prepare and preserve the golf course as the club’s most valuable asset and its best opportunity to provide enjoyment for its members. The position is expected to be a visible presence among the team and members with exceptionally strong agronomic, business, leadership, and communication skills. The position must be an excellent, transparent communicator with a natural style of “sincere engagement” with both the management team and members. He/she will have extensive agronomical knowledge and know-how. Continuing education, professional development, strong peer group relations, and staying at the forefront of research and technology are necessary for success. The role of the position includes the golf course and grounds surrounding it, but also the common areas of the entire property. While the position will report directly to the General Manager/COO, they will work in consultation with the Greens & Grounds Chair as well. To understand and fulfill the BOD’s and Greens & Grounds Committee’s goals for a firm, fast and exceptional challenge for all levels of players. To deliver a golf course that plays in such a manner that meets or exceeds our members and guests expectations. To plan and execute a program that maintains a superior golf experience, as well as enhancing and protecting the view and aesthetics of our property. The course should be maintained such that excellent playing conditions exist for both the championship and the average golfer. The golf course should play near championship standards on a continued basis and at a championship standard for member events.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Foster a staff culture that ensures an extremely high level of service and quality conditions on a consistent basis.
• Recruit, hire, train, and set performance standards for all golf course grounds personnel.
• Inspects golf course daily to see what horticultural or landscaping work needs to be performed.
• Maintains the golf course, driving range and practice facilities at acceptable playing standards set by the BOD’s and Greens & Grounds Committee.
• Exceptional bunker maintenance program.
• History of improving consistency of roughs.
• Subscribes to sustainable maintenance practices.
• Solid irrigation management philosophy and practices.
• Strong agronomic skills-stays current with advances in turf technology and equipment.
• Experience in tree management.
• Work in conjunction with the Golf Committee, Head Golf Professional and General Manager/COO to develop the annual golf calendar.
• Ensure a first‐class practice facility experience on a daily basis.
• Plans, schedules and assigns work daily to team members.
• Supervises maintenance crew responsibilities for mowing performed on; greens, tees and fairways.
• Evaluates work and counsels’ staff on ways to improve performance.
• Prepare the annual budget for the golf course operations department and strive to meet or exceed department goals.
• Strong budget management and forecasting skills.
• A history of developing a positive employee work culture.
• A history of mentoring team members and advancing their careers.
• Experience with internship programs.
• Strong leader who inspires loyalty and respect among team.
• Prepares RFP’s and bid specifications for horticultural and landscaping work.
• Enforce all club policies that govern the use of the golf course, practice facilities, and USGA Rules of Golf.
• Maintain regular communication and interaction with the General Manager/COO, Head Golf Professional, Director of Food & Beverage, Director of Finance, and Committee Chairs and attend weekly staff meetings.
• Meets with vendors, conducts horticultural research, and exchanges information with other golf course superintendents to identify new programs, methods, equipment, and supplies, which may improve the maintenance for the golf course.

Requirements:
Certified Class-GCSAA Class A member with a minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant with a private club/and or high-end resort golf facility or equivalent combination of education and experience.
College degree- Agronomy/Turfgrass Management.
BA/BS undergraduate degree preferred.
Proven financial and budget acumen including developing budgets, analyzing P&L results, maintaining costs, and meeting reporting deadlines.
Ability to manage our hybrid of POA annua/bent greens and fairways.
Proven history of prioritizing and executing long-range course improvements.
Special technical and administrative knowledge-ability to interpret diagnostic data e.g. soil tests, water tests, nematode assays, etc.
Licenses, registrations preferred: Certified Golf Course Superintendent.
Required: certified chemical and pest applicator.

Compensation:
$110,000 – $150,000 per year.
