Golf Course Superintendent
Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.

Position Overview:
• Must be well groomed. Dress requirements include professional attire with nametag. Nametag must be worn at all times while working on the property.
• Must be well-mannered, display a smile at all times, greet guests and employees when encountered and
• show appreciation to the guest for being at the resort, show willingness to help guests and employees at all times.
• Charged with all management functions of golf course maintenance crews, including development of work lists, job assignments, discipline, training, and quality control. Performs tasks associated with HR and Accounting as identified in the annual Management Performance Standards.
• Assists in the development of long and short-term goals. Provides input on progress of attaining these goals. Makes recommendations to improve operations.
• Makes in-field adjustments to daily assignments. Reviews course conditions daily and makes appropriate adjustments to daily and weekly goals.
• Promotes a safe work environment and culture for all employees. Completes reviews and training. Conducts meetings. Responsible for employee development, safety, and training. Ensures compliance with OSHA laws and that appropriate training records are maintained. Initiates and investigates employee accident reports and property incident reports Performs at the level described in the annual Management Safety Guidelines.
• Serves as primary contact on projects for the department. This may include construction, drainage, landscaping, etc. Development and documentation for project budgets. Prioritizes work load and organizes budgets. Communicates targets and goals of projects.
• Renders professional advice, opinions, assistance and services, as required, to owners and management. Maintains professional relationships with all co-workers.
• -Responsible for interview, hire, process for payment, review, discipline processes, and payroll. Ensures that company and resort policies are consistently maintained during these processes.
• Participates in the development and management of operating and capital improvement budgets, including budget submittals and changes, purchases, order processes, receiving reports, invoice submission, inventories.
• Performs checks on work quantity and quality of maintenance crews. Ensures daily workload is completed correctly.
• Overall responsibility for purchase orders, budgeting, parts, chemical, and fertilizer inventories, repair, weather, calibration, chemical, and fertilizer logs. Checks parts orders and places orders, as needed.
• Operates irrigation system with central computer, radios, and field controllers. Hand waters greens, tees, and fairways. Evaluates and determines irrigation needs and executes plans.
• Supervises and assists with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing golf course irrigation system, including valve-in-head sprinklers, valves, quick couplers, valves, radio control system, field controllers, booster pump, and pump station. Performs routine operational checks on irrigation system. Makes repairs in professional manner. Checks maintenance and repair logs.
• Applies chemicals and fertilizers in safe manner. Uses a push spreader, riding spreader, walk boom, and riding boom equipment in performing these tasks.
• Supervises and assists with application of chemicals and fertilizers to resort properties in safe manner. Responsible for training of other team members assigned to similar tasks. Waters in chemicals or fertilizers after application. Calibrates application equipment. Uses hand spreaders, push spreaders, hand sprayer, riding sprayer.
• Assists Landscape and Grounds Manager with the Mechanic Shop and its employees in repair and maintenance of equipment. Develops priorities to allow efficient operation. Provides input on the performance of this area.
• Uses walking and riding greens mower, tee mower, fairway mower, rough mower, roller, bunker rake, carts, push mowers, and a variety of powered and non-powered hand tools to maintain golf course grounds and landscaping. Cleans and maintains equipment that is used. Treats all equipment with care and respect. Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Responsible for daily set up of golf course. Sets cups and move tee markers. Monitors hazard marking on course and adjusts as needed.
• Installs, cleans, and repairs drainage. Performs drainage layout and preparatory tasks.
• Supervises and performs light custodial and maintenance operations on golf course grounds and buildings, i.e. cleaning and stocking rest rooms, sweeping stones from paths, trash collection, mopping floors, etc. Uses mops and brooms.
• Reports problems encountered on site to immediately. Takes appropriate steps to address emergency situations.
• Supervises portions of the snow removal processes, as needed. May require evening and night time work in poor weather conditions.

5 Years of Experience in Golf Course Management at similar property.
Additional experience with Commercial Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping is recommended.
AAS Degree in Horticulture, Turfgrass Management, or related field is preferred.
Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices.
West Virginia Certified Commercial Applicator for turf and ornamentals (Category 4A). Knowledge of game of golf and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf is required.
Proven leadership qualities.
Ability to manage large crew working in variety of industry tasks.
Experienced with centralized irrigation systems.
Knowledge of basic electrical and hydraulic operations of irrigation.
Experienced with the safe and modern application of chemicals and fertilizers.
Chemical Application License is required.
Working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods.
Requires knowledge of industry-standard safety practices, human resources, accounting, and business management.
Requires participation with local, state, and national trades organizations.
Ability to communicate in written and oral forms in a professional manner.
Ability to operate personal computers.
Ability to work independently and in team setting.
Ability to interact well with others in a professional manner.
Ability to operate a variety of equipment and hand tools in safe manner.
Ability to learn new equipment and procedures.
