Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Course in Asheville, North Carolina is looking for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

Position Overview:
Directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course grounds; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. Take superintendent’s responsibilities in his/her absence.

Responsibilities:
• Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of golf course grounds.
• Schedules work and supervises associates and the use of the equipment.
• Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment. Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
• Assists in personnel management; associate safety and discipline.
• Assesses daily work schedules and modifies based on current needs.
• Assists with record keeping for supplies, daily logs, application records, weather records and staff time records.
• Responsible for daily maintenance of entire course in superintendent’s absence.
• Communicate course conditions with superintendent, golf staff, hotel staff and guests as appropriate.
• Assist with snow removal.

Requirements:
As Associate’s Degree in Turfgrass Management or a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy is required.
Must have working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course; seeding and maintenance practices of golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of equipment.
Ability to prepare clean and concise reports.
Maintain effective employee and public relations.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Requires current North Carolina pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days.
Spanish a plus.
Cool season turf experience preferred.
Outdoor work in all types of weather.
