Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Club in Naples, Florida is looking for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

Position Overview:
Under supervision of the Superintendent, the Assistant’s primary responsibility consists assisting the Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy/GC Maintenance with supervision and routine management of all related functions concerning golf course maintenance and member services related to daily, weekly, seasonal and annual golf course grounds and competition turf grass and surfaces management, including but not limited to: daily golf course maintenance services, employee leadership, training, education and supervision of golf course maintenance employees, budget development and management, assist with golf course renovation projects management, irrigation controls and management, chemical and fertilizer application management planning, development and management and, work in concert and coordination with Club Administration through the Club Organizational Chart.

Duties:
• Quality leadership and supervision of golf course maintenance employees.
o Training and Educational planning and execution of all golf course maintenance employees.
o Assist in scheduling of all golf course maintenance employees with daily, weekly, seasonal and annual tasks and projects to maintain the highest level of quality time and resources will allow.
• Assuring that the most important job tasks of Golf Course Services and Set Up are organized, orchestrated and achieved on a daily basis year-round. This is the most Important task set within the department and, requires communications with The Golf Course Superintendent and, as directed by the Director of Agronomy, key GCM staff skilled with these services.
• Daily, weekly and monthly golf course conditioning evaluations and assistance with daily records, monthly report writing for informational conveyance to the appropriate club representatives through The respective Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy.
• Responsible for assisting with all agronomic practices planning, budgeting and implementation with an emphasis on Best Management Practices.
o Assistance with development of daily planning and annual management calendars produced on an annual basis for Golf Course Maintenance associated schedules that impact the club’s entire annual schedule.
o Careful and deliberate management of all fertilizer and chemical application process, including record keeping, safety management, inventory management and continuing education for self and all key staff with these responsibilities.
• Assist with the care and management, to the highest standards, all assets of the department including
structures, fixed assets, mobile equipment, tools, furniture and fixtures, electronic equipment and any other assets assigned to the department.
• Golf course improvement planning, budgeting and management for:
o Agronomy plans and schedules designed for high-end or, World class golf course conditioning.
o Planning & development of competitive enhancements; design & architectural related projects.
o Irrigation management, improvement planning through direct involvement with design process.
o Master drainage management and all associated personnel-related management. With the respective Golf Course Superintendent, responsible for all agronomic practices related to golf course conditioning.
o Land Use and Landscape, Tree and Native Species Management Planning and Care.
o Maintenance Facilities Upgrades Planning and Development.
• Work Hours may include or span between from 5:30 am to 6:00 am start times to 5:30 pm, up to 6 days weekly, depending upon season and in direct coordination with the Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy. Work scope and load may be seasonally adjusted according to the needs of the course and the club.
• In any and all matters, business and public relations related, regarding The Club, represent The Club with the utmost in professional conduct and behavior.
• Administrative duties: assist with the evaluation of the golf course and all turf grass and competition, practice and golf academy surfaces on a daily basis and ensure that all operational standards are being met.
• Assist with the golf course maintenance budgeting process and, research of necessary purchases for resources and materials related to conducting the operations of the Golf Course Maintenance Department; participate in the conduct of daily, weekly management and employee meetings; conduct once to twice monthly staff training, educational and safety meetings.
o Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy with the preparation of Capital Expense Recommendations through 1, 3, 5 and 10-year projections.
• Participate in meetings, as directed, by the Golf Course Superintendent or, the Director of Agronomy with any and all professional service providers, Golf Course Architects, Engineers, Designers, Contractors, Vendors and related and associated staff on matters related to the daily, monthly and seasonal operational plans and schedules associated with routine maintenance operations as well as Capital Improvements, Competitive Enhancements to the golf courses; assist with planning and developing operational budgets and schedules to meet these duties.
• Conduct timely operational correspondences with associated administrative personnel, senior staff, subordinate staff.
• Additionally, in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent, represent the club with any and all aspects of golf course specialty contractors, vendors, common vendors, industry associations and the general public being mindful of the authoritative privilege of The Club; handle sensitive matters with the advice and direction of The Director of Agronomy and Senior Management and Official Club Representatives.
• Routine, daily and weekly ride-throughs of course(s) with course supervisors and, possibly the Director of Agronomy, preparing detailed work orders and work order lists of projects with deadlines on and of production.
• Daily inspection of golf courses, maintenance areas and related buildings and assets.
• Evaluation and purposeful inspection of all aspects of Safety and Security of all employees, club policy and procedure, employee actions, behaviors, work processes and club assets. Report any and all Safety and Security concerns as they are presented immediately to your supervisors.
• Through continuing education, develop a fully integrated, continual, educational training program to build the knowledge and skill sets, acumen of Golf Course Maintenance Operations and Agronomy in coordination with the Golf Course Superintendent and, or The Director of Agronomy for use as a future Golf Course Superintendent.
• Assist with the development of and produce and provide semi-annual performance reviews for all employees in concert with the Senior Golf Course Manager.
• Conduct routine daily meetings with shop manager, equipment evaluation and operational assessment, including care, maintenance and storage of all department assets.
• Conduct safety meetings, inspections and monitor all safety policies within department. Create and provide addendums to existing policies to improve quality of education and training programs.
• Assist with monitoring all inventory levels including fuel usage and storage systems, equipment parts, chemicals and irrigation parts. Assist where necessary, accurate and complete records on inventory, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, personal records, equipment records, and other golf course maintenance records.
• Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy, with the coordination of all construction projects related to in-house and out-of-house projects within the golf course. Assist as directed with plans for golf course construction, reconstruction, competitive enhancements, irrigation projects and renovation projects.

Requirements:
(Candidate must be trainable to World-Class Golf Course Management Standards.): Associate degree or higher in Turf Grass Management/Golf Course Management, Agri-business, Parks and Recreation or related field with specialty in agronomy, horticulture, plant, and soil sciences.
Required Minimum: Five years of experience in the Golf Course Maintenance Industry in a responsible position as Chemical Technician, Assistant Golf Course Superintendent or Golf Course Superintendent.
Fair to Excellent degree of working knowledge and experience of computers, budgets, inventories and purchase order systems. Working knowledge and thorough understanding and implementation of all company policy and procedures. Must be flexible and trainable.
Must attend education classes related to golf course maintenance field for continuing education.
Membership in The Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America.
Membership shall be compulsory upon employment.
Attendance and active participation of The GCSMAI Quarterly and Annual Meetings.
Preferred: Membership in The Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America or The Asia Golf Industry Federation.
Have or obtain the Florida Ornamental and Turf Pesticide License within 90 days of initial employment.
Working knowledge of golf course maintenance and agronomy and general turf grass best management practices.
Preferred: Plays Golf. And, a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
Capacity towards the development and contribution to evolving knowledge of current national, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations – Required.
Ability to select and recommend educate and train key staff and personnel in the tradecraft and skill sets to potentially become qualified Golf Course Superintendents in the future.

Compensation:
$45,000 – $55,000 per year.
