Golf Greenskeeper
Municipal Golf Course in Allentown, Pennsylvania is looking for a Golf Greenskeeper.

Position Overview:
The position reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the Golf Course Superintendent’s supervision, the position directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The position will serve in the Golf Course Superintendent’s capacity during his/her absence. Works under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent. May exercise supervision over Maintenance Mechanic, MW II, Seasonal golf course laborers and part time high school laborers. Will serve as Golf Course Superintendent during his/her absence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A. Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment.
B. Instructs equipment operators in the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide and fertilizer application and/or operates calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and the drainage system, and in the programming, operation and maintenance of a computer operated irrigation system.
C. Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee’s safety, personnel discipline, and may also modify the daily work schedule of staff based on professional interpretation.
D. Assists with the direction of an ergonomically sophisticated turf grass management program designed to provide a playing surface that meets the Municipal Golf Courses aesthetic and playing standards, while preserving the integrity of the environment.
E. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in the construction, renovation, and/or reconstruction of golf course properties, whether performed by maintenance staff or outside contractors.
F. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in the preparation of annual budgets of the maintenance and capital improvement of golf course properties.
G. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent when he/she trains, directs, supervises and evaluates a staff of employees for the purpose of maintaining the properties.
H. Plans all maintenance and project work under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, applying his or her agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the agreed-upon maintenance standards and long-range goals. This is especially important in the care of the greens and tees.
I. Operates and maintains a variety of general and special purpose equipment.
J. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in acquiring equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain the golf course and other properties.
K. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in developing an irrigation, fertilization and pesticide application plan and oversees its implementation.
L. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in keeping accurate and complete records in payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, material applications, location of hazardous materials, etc.
M. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in programming the computerized automatic irrigation system with appropriate data (weather information, evaporation and transpiration rates, soil permeability, etc.) to insure proper watering intervals on tees, greens and fairways.
N. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in achieving and documenting compliance with a myriad of government regulations that impact golf course management; including EPS’s underground storage tank requirements, pesticide applicator certification requirements and pesticides storage rules; OSHA Hazardous Communications Standards; etc.
O. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in developing and maintaining an aesthetically pleasing landscape program.
P. In the Golf Course Superintendent’s absence, services as an expert informational resource on golf course and turf grass management for golfers.
Q. Assists with the supervision and participates in the work involved in maintaining trees, fairways, greens, roughs, traps/ditches, cutting grass, dressing greens, sodding, fertilizing, seeding, watering, etc.
R. Assists in maintaining a chemical inventory, ordering additional supplies as necessary and keeping the appropriate records and documentation.
S. Performs related work as may be required.
T. Provide quality and effective customer service with courtesy and understanding to our customers, citizens and internal departments.

Requirements:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in agronomy or turf management and a minimum of two years experience in golf course maintenance and operations, or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Skill in the use of Windows-based operating systems.
Requires a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Pesticide License, Category 7, Turf.
Requires a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License of the appropriate classification.
Equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices of golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditions; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and computer-assisted automatic controls.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.
Requires the use of tractors, tractor attachments, all types of grass cutting mowers riding as well as hand operated mowers. All power tools and equipment associated with operation of maintaining the golf course and clubhouse grounds.
Requires daily use of personal computer and mainframe computer, copier, fax machine, telephone, cell phone and other radio devices.

Compensation:
$21.5913 per hour.
