Assistant Golf Course Superintendent-in-Training
Country Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan is looking for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent-in-Training.

Position Overview:
The position is a developmental position for those individuals aspiring to become effective Assistant Golf Course Superintendents whom have already procured a degree in a related field or have acquired a comparable amount of experience and are looking to advance in the vocation. The assistant in training performs a myriad of daily tasks pertaining to the upkeep and care of the golf course playing areas, clubhouse grounds, course hardscape structures, and cart paths. Additionally the will complete special tasks that are normally assigned to assistant golf course superintendents such as applying fertilizers and chemicals, and course set up. Under the supervision of the management team they are to provide the golf course in the form and function accustomed by the membership as described in the adopted course standards document.

Duties to include but are not limited to:
• Calibrating and applying fertilizers and chemicals under the directions of Assistant Golf Course Superintendents and Head Golf Course Superintendent.
• Complete required record keeping of all applications required by local, state, and federal laws.
• Complete tasks associated with the repair and maintenance of the automatic sprinkler and drainage systems under the direction of supervisors.
• Monitor and apply correct amounts of water via hand watering or irrigation system of all course playing areas.
• Plan and complete special projects as directed and supervised by the Assistant Golf Course Superintendents and Head Golf Course Superintendent.
• Complete daily course set up duties such as cutting cups, correct tee marker placement; trash removal, blowing playing surfaces, and trash collection.
• Complete walk mowing of greens, tees, and approaches.
• Complete push mowing of selected rough sites, bunker faces, and clubhouse grounds.
• Complete daily bunker maintenance using mechanical and hand rakes.
• Operates select machinery in the proper and safe manner to mow appropriate areas such as fairways, roughs, and bunker faces.
• Operate heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes, skid steers, trenchers, mowers, etc. after appropriate training.
• Complete timely trim work around trees, yardage plaques, and course hardware to provide a clean and neat appearance at all times.
• Aid in the care of the course’s ornamental plantings under the direction of the Staff Horticulturalist.
• Complete other related tasks as directed by supervisors.

Requirements:
A degree in turfgrass management or related field is not necessarily required but but is preferred.
The applicant should have multiple seasons experience completing the aforementioned tasks.
Current turf students or individuals looking at advancing their career in the golf course management vocation and earning a degree in turf management are encouraged to apply.
A minimum of a two year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience level in the field with plans to procure a degree.
Already possess or have the ability to procure the appropriate state sanctioned pesticide applicator’s license in the Core, Turf, Ornamental, and Right of Way categories within 30 days of employment.
The ability to apply fertilizers and chemicals at the correct rate to the correct area
Ability to follow oral and written directions
The ability to work and communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
A high degree of attention to detail.
Knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of tractors and other motorized equipment.
Mechanical aptitude.
Must have a positive attitude at all times.
Must adopt a “willing to whatever it takes” mentality to assist in the overall success and operation of the grounds department and the club.

Compensation:
$13.00 – $15.00 per hour.
Depending on experience.
