Golf Course Superintendent
Country Club in Artesia, New Mexico is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.

Position Overview:
Under general supervision by the Country Club Greens and Grounds Committee, the Golf Course Superintendent organizes, supervises and directs the maintenance and management of golf course grounds.

The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities:
• Supervises maintenance crew; prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; trains and evaluates staff; reviews the completed work to assure the work quality and timely accomplishment of assigned duties.
• Continuously monitors golf course grounds, including greens, tees, fairways, rough and hazards; identifies projects and priorities, and supervises the work activities to maintain, repair and improve the turf, grounds and irrigation systems; inspects work in progress and completed work for compliance to safety standards.
• Assures the golf course maintains the best possible playing conditions including proper placement of pins, tee markers, and proper raking of bunkers.
• Supervises and assists in the maintenance and repair of golf course irrigation systems. Supervises drainage problems, including irrigation controls and pumping stations; supervises proper water management.
• Inspects and tests turf grasses and turf conditions and identifies irrigation problems, insect infestation and other problems; determines and implements appropriate action to restore turf to optimum playing conditions.
• Oversees and performs pesticide, chemical and fertilizer applications; tracks hazardous chemical, and reports on OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets.
• Confers with Golf Pro to prepare for special events and tournaments.
• Oversees the maintenance and operation of golf course equipment, including backhoe, tractors, mowers, aerators, sprayers and others.
• Prepares and oversees annual maintenance budgets.
• Manages a variety of administrative activities including employee scheduling, payroll reporting, maintenance procedures and work activity reports; maintains inventories and assures that adequate materials, supplies, and tools are available; processes and responds to work requests and complaints.
• Evaluates and analyzes issues, and recommends and implements solutions; provides leadership to assure that construction and maintenance programs are in alignment with the goals and objectives and budget constraints.
• Monitors and reviews trends in turf management and irrigation systems and recommends new equipment and maintenance procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree with course work emphasis in turf grass or golf course management preferred; supplemented by 5 years previous experience & 2 years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.
Technical training in turf maintenance & irrigation management is preferred.
Golf course maintenance, turf management & agronomy principles & techniques.
Methods, equipment & materials used.
Proper operation, use & care of specialized tools & equipment used.
OSHA MSDS for hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
Safety protocols for specialized equipment operation & the handling of pesticides & chemicals.
Must possess a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a New Mexico Pesticide applicators License.

Required Skill in:
Monitoring golf course grounds & identifying maintenance & safety issues.
Evaluating golf course grounds & soil conditions, & managing projects to assure that the grounds & the turf are properly maintained.
Determining appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
Safely operating & maintaining various types of maintenance equipment & tools.
Assessing & prioritizing multiple tasks, projects & demands.
Supervising staff, & delegating tasks & authority.
Operating a computer and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Compensation:
$60,000 – $72,000 per year.
Golf, membership status, local and national dues paid, and travel to regional meetings provided.
