Part-time Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Course in Westminster, Colorado is looking for a Part-time Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

Position Overview:
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is a front-line supervisory position responsible for assisting the Golf Course Superintendent in providing daily maintenance, operation and management of one of the City’s golf courses. The position reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Work is occasionally performed indoor and constantly outdoor with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures. Work is performed in a public golf course setting in which instruction and golf course maintenance are performed year round.

Every employee in this position must be able to:
• Demonstrate and utilize knowledge of methods, materials, equipment and operating procedures utilized in golf course maintenance; including turf disease control, agronomy, fertilizers, pest control, and irrigation distribution systems.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal and management skills.
• Maintain effective employee and public relations.
• Possess extensive knowledge in the repair and maintenance of golf course irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls. Experience in the use of Rain Bird Cirrus software and programming is desired.
• Be familiar with the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers, soil conditioners, herbicides and pest control methods and materials.
• Perform basic golf course construction projects such as drainage installation, bunker renovation, irrigation installation etc.
• Perform basic landscape horticultural duties such planting, cultivating, pruning and caring for plants, shrubs and trees.
• Possess basic computer skills and experience in creating and using various spreadsheets.

Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Tasks
1. Assists the Golf Course Superintendent in performing various personnel related activities, including, training, supervising, and enforcing policies and procedures for employees involved in maintaining the golf course.
2. Supervises all pesticide applications as determined by the Golf Course Superintendent, responsible for all operation, calibration, application rates and maintenance of all application equipment.
3. Instructs and trains equipment operators on the operation and care of all equipment used in maintaining the golf course and conducts all safety training programs.
4. Supervises and supports the Golf Irrigator in the operation, maintenance and repair of all irrigation system components, including all pumping systems.
5. Implements in-house construction projects.
6. Hires and trains all seasonal employees including orientation, documentation and exit interviews.
7. Maintains regular and punctual attendance.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. With the Golf Course Superintendent, administers and evaluates turf management standards and programs on a regular basis.
2. Assists Golf Irrigator with annual irrigation system blow out and system recharge.
3. Supervises and participates in the operation, maintenance and repair of all irrigation system components, including all pumping systems.
4. Assists in the scheduling and supervision of all golf course maintenance work.
5. Provides periodic verbal or written progress reports on any in-house project.

Requirements:
Associates/two-year degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, or directly related field.
Minimum two (2) years of experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Irrigation Technician or Golf Irrigator (in addition to/separate from the two (2) years as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent).
Must possess or be able to obtain within six months certification by the State of Colorado as a Pesticide Applicator.
Must possess a valid driver’s license, provide proof of a safe driving record and maintain a safe driving record for continued employment.
Background checks will include employment references and criminal history and when applicable, credit check, driver’s license record, education verification.
Pre-employment drug screen.
Pre-employment physical.
Must be legally entitled to work in the United States.

Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree from accredited, four-year university or college in Agronomy, Horticulture, or directly related field.
Supervisory experience.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Work performed is physical in nature and must possess sufficient physical stamina and strength to:
• Frequently sit, stand and walk indoor/outdoor and over uneven terrain to inspect condition of clubhouse and golf course.
• Occasionally squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach overhead to perform clubhouse and golf course maintenance; frequently bend to instruct, stock and constantly reach below shoulder and frequent twisting to perform maintenance and office duties.
• Frequent light grasp and handling to properly use office equipment and small tools; occasional firm grasp and fine manipulation perform course maintenance on turf, irrigation and equipment.
• Frequent step up/down and constant actuate mechanism to safely enter/exit and operate golf carts, riding mowers and vehicles.
• Constant near acuity to perform office tasks; constant far acuity to observe course for maintenance needs and safety hazards; constant hearing to effectively communicate with guests, staff and to be aware of any possible dangers on golf course.
• Occasional lifting of up to twenty-five (25) pounds from floor to overhead to stock merchandise; occasional lifting and carrying of up to eighty (80) pounds from ground to waist up to fifteen (15) feet to move bags of concrete and fertilizer to work site and storage; occasional pushing/pulling of up to 100 pounds to transport merchandise and maintenance supplies in clubhouse and on course using a pallet jack and wheel barrows.

Compensation:
$51,084.51 – $65,392.50 per year.
The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The agency offers a bonus of up to $1,500 per year depending on the employee’s fluency in Spanish, Hmong, and/or Laotian.
